"Give Thanks" Video :: Raashan Ahmad

I have been a fan of Om Records for a bit. Their cache of music and the genres that they cover is extensive. They have a hip hop division, but it's just a little something - quality, not quantity.

Well, I was scrolling through one of their newsletters and saw a post on Raashan Ahmad. The brief article included a link to the video so I went with it. Good thing too. The lyrics are inspirational but not too cheesy. But the vid was so cool. Nice graphics throughout and just kind of carefree. It's a good vibe. Love that.

It's been about 30 days since I last posted the WMCO Hip Hop Charts. some folks have staying power ... the charts tend to look drastically different after six weeks. My favs are BusDriver, Ghostface and Wax Tailor.

"True Magic"

• Good stuff; true to his game, but does not venture off and explore much new terrain though I like the title track; it's not like "Danger" and lots of folk did not like that; but can someone tell me what is up w/the packaging on this disc - or the lack of it? Yeah, it was in a clear plastic case w/the disc and that is it...no cover art, no liner notes. The tracks are listed on the disk and that is it; that is so booty ... There should be a discount for that ...

Om: Hip-Hop V. 1

• What's not like about Om Records? And this project is meaty - Zion I, Colossus, Crown City Rockers ... instead of Om, it should be 'ummmm' (hope that's not too corny ... )

• The age of the white girl rapper has arrived; but this joint is really nice; there's just a different atmosphere on this; the flow is unpredictable, the beats are strong and on point

Bunny Rabbit
"Lovers and Crypts"

• This one I have not listened to yet; my copy is supposed to be clean and it damn well better be, because with titles like "Pussy Queen" and "Saddle Up", it'll never get any airplay where I'm at

I finally located my "More Fish" from Ghostface ... that's the one to get.

Hip Hop January

Here is some hot hip hop that I'd like to put on the radar.

Colossus - he is on the Om label. Good stuff. The cd is titled "West Oaktown". His flow is steady and the beats are hot. It is a two cd set with a jazz influence.

P.O. S. - is from the Rhymesayers camp! That alone speaks volumes. I am attracted to track #2 on the "Audition" cd which is "Half Cooked Concepts". He seems so casual in his delivery and the topics that he addresses are relatable.

Psyche Origami - love this project. "The Standard" seems to be all about working at a gas station/convenience store. The lyrics are catchy and quirky and the beats are smooth.
