VIDEO: Madcon "Beggin'"

This song by Madcon is killer: "Beggin'". I'm crazy about the singing; that voice is sooo on point. But then they backed up the track w/a vid that just comes correct.

Hip hoppers, Madcon is taking you to school ... luckily, you'll enjoy the lesson. kfox.

VIDEO: Shabazz Palaces "Belhaven Meridian"

I thought that the music video game had lost its moxie. Meaning: folks stand around yelling, riding in rented cars w/rented chicks and other fake paraphernalia. Oh, the sadness that is crap-hop. But now I've discovered that Shabazz Palaces has churned out a exceptionally crafty one - video that is (and a rather strong song too).

I could say a dozen or so things about it, but you gotta see it for yourself hip hoppers. kfox.

And here's one of the few links to info on Shabazz Palaces (from Pitchfork Media).

This is How Music is Made

I know that not every artist can afford to get musicians to accompany them on their music. But that element of live musicianship is huge.

Check out this short vid from a Black Milk/Slum Village studio session w/Will Sessions (Detroit, do your thang).

Time for a rehearsal hip hoppers. kfox.

Farewell to Guru

The hip hop world lost an innovator this week when Guru passed away.

Makes me reminiscence. Can't believe that it was '93 when Jazzmatazz, Vol. 1 came out. That was a nice time to twist rap on its head.

Check out these links for more about Guru:
Let's pay some respect hip hoppers. kfox.

VIDEO: Amir Sulaiman "Spit"

Amir Sulaiman's "Spit" video is an attention getter, and not just visually, but lyrically as well.

This movie-like video highlights drama and chaos and peacefulness too. Amir Sulaiman goes through some peaks and valleys and all the while he's showcasing his delivery skills.

I like this video for its purpose, the video quality and its diversity.

It's time to get down w/what's good hip hoppers. kfox.

VIDEO: Erykah Badu's "Window Seat"

This is the video that has folks talking and that is precisely what a well thought out video can do. Erykah Badu weaves quite a bit into the "Window Seat" video. It's the first official single from "New Amerykah Part Two (Return of the Ankh)" project.

I've only watched it once and already I am thinking, learning and discussing the implications of this artistic vid.

Check it out hip hoppers. What are your thoughts? kfox.

Docu-Music Video: Invincible "Locusts"

Oh, this one is nice. From hip hop's Invincible. It tackles the issue of urban housing development in Detroit.

The music vid is a prelude to the narratives from community members. The project accomplishes alot in less than 7 minutes.

It was the winner of the Housing Rights Award from the Media That Matters Film Festival.

Have something to say hip hoppers, then say it. kfox.

Video: Zion I "Geek to the Beat"

There's nothing like a video to take my focus off the lyrics. This video by Zion I is the perfect example of my theory. This vid has a bit of weirdness to it. It's one of those videos where there is no apparent connection, at least not from my first, second and third views of the video.

Still I like that it is not the same ole, same ole. Can you take a peek and let me know what you think? That would be nice hip hoppers. kfox.

Hip Hop is Global :: Los Aldeanos

The beauty of hip hop is that it's the voice of the people. It's the stories of underrepresented communities. That's what you get w/Los Aldeanos.

Check out the duo in this long form video. Love the beat. Love to hear them speak in detail about their passion for hip hop. I only watched this video, but I am anxious to check out the rest of their project. Nice vid too. Thanks for the subtitles.

See full report...

Hip hoppers, even if you can't get out of your hood, you can be inspired by someone else's ... kfox.

A Kanye Video "West Welcome to Heartbreak"

Okay ... another video. This time from Kanye West. How cool is this? I'm just lukewarm on the song, but the video is hot. I love the technique.

Oh and he's featuring KiD CuDi in this one. That gets cool points too. But check it and leave your comments.

KiD CuDi's "Day 'N' Nite" Video

Oh, how I love this KiD CuDi "Day 'N' Nite" video. Love the creativity; love the illusions. I do like the song too. Just a nice slow beat and cool lyrics too. And it's all good that he's a Clevelander. Right, right.

The lonely stoner loner. Yeah.

Whaddaya think hip hoppers? Should this one get an A+? kfox.
