VIDEO: The Narcicyst "Fly Over Egypt"

Some of you may know that I live and work in Cairo, Egypt; been here since 2009.

The current atmosphere is more than sketchy. The tension builds up slowly and often erupts w/daily edition of rock throwing. I'll take rock throwing over mass killing every day like what's going on in Syria. But then Egypt had the Port Said tragedy last week. The country is heavy w/grief and frustration.

Don't recall how I discovered this track; I think it was on Zite on the iPad. But The Narcicyst pulls out a rock of his own - a solid production. Love the beats and of course he's got something to say in the lyrics. And let me be one of the first to say that the video captures the cultural essence of Egypt. My only quibble is that the vid lacks images of women.

The eeriest lyric on the track for me is: "I feel the winds of change." Because I feel the change, but then again, I don't. The feeling of change in the country has shifted dramatically since this time last year.

So hip hoppers show some love for Egyptians in their quest for freedom and democracy ... and then, keep showin some love. They'll be ignited by your global enthusiasm. kfox.

VIDEO: Arabian Knightz "Egypt's Revolution Song"

Egyptians continue to protest throughout the country until the president resigns. Change is on the horizon.

My colleague tells me that Arabian Knightz recorded this song prior to the #Jan25 protests. However, this video to the song was recently produced and uploaded to YouTube. The images and footage are both heartbreaking and inspiring.

Every revolution has a soundtrack. This is just one of those songs hip hoppers. kfox.

Egypt's #Jan25 Movement & Hip Hop :: Arabian Knightz & Lauryn Hill

I live and work in Cairo, Egypt. Unless, you've been under a rock (or had your Internet access disconnected), then you should know about the 'unrest' here.

There's so much to say about what is going on here right now, but this is a hip hop blog, so I'll remain focused.

Arabian Knightz have hooked up w/hip hop's supreme queen, Lauryn Hill. They've recorded "Rebel" about the #Jan25 movement which has forever changed Egypt (regardless of the outcome). Folks in the U.S., particularly Black folks are very familiar with civil rights and human rights and what it's like to not have them. Prideful Egyptians have been 'rebelling' by marching peacefully for nearly two weeks for better human rights.

Hip hoppers, if you know and understand their plight, then do what you can to show your support. kfox.

The track begins in Arabic and later there's an English segment; it has that laid back Lauryn Hill vibe.
